Moving to Australia, help me out here =)

Ok so me and the wife are seriously looking into moving to Australia. We loved the place while we were there for two weeks and I saw Helmet and all that stuff. So we kinda got some of it figured (starting out with the working holiday visa, come for 12 months for people under 30 etc), but where do you get an apartment? Obviously all those holiday villas and whatnot that first come up on Google are mucho expensive and out of our range. Let's say we want something like 1-2 bedrooms + living room + kitchen + bathroom. How much is that in AU$/month and can you point me to any websites that list them etc? We're not looking for anything real fancy. We really liked Gold Coast so that's where we'd like to live. From what I heard while in Australia, construction and renovation jobs should be plentiful for people who are willing to do some manual labor for their money...that's me.

Any pointers and whatever you think of are more than welcome. Thanks! =)

really bad time to be coming over to australia...housing shortages means that rent is at a premium...plus interest rates going up means that people are putting rent up on their properties...

markofcain is right, pretty costly at the moment.

Try these.

www.realestateview.com.au
www.domain.com.au
www.realestate.com.au
www.myhome.com.au
www.property.com.au
www.real-estate-australia.com.au

These should get you started, I'm familiar with the top 3.

Thanks guys =)

Well, it's a bit of a crap time to be in Finland too. Prices are going up all the time, gasoline is 50% more expensive than it was a few years ago, food prices are also really high. Lately there's been talk of a depression coming on soon and all that so I guess it'd be just a matter of switching to another sinking boat, eh? =) From what I hear Australia is full of work to be done and I don't mind a bit of manual labor to get started if that's all the work I can find.

We're still "just" looking into it. Like, we seriously intend to do it and will if possible but we're taking our time as she still has to finish her studies (bit more than a year to go). I guess it's just cos we loved how friendly, helpful and open everyone was in Australia and we enjoyed the climate too.
