New song: A Looking In View

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XnBEXTuUca0

I would say AIC have lost almost nothing of their old vibe.
I think their new guy does pretty good, although I wasn´t sure of him becuase I don´t like his old, COmes With The Fall....

The video's up now on their site: http://www.aliceinchains.com. If you were expecting a performance video, it's not. It actually reminds me a bit of a Tool video, particularly one scene near the end (if you've seen the Vicarious video you should understand). I like the song, to me it sounds like it would be the opener for the album. Of course there's still a month before we get to hear the next song.

I do not have the slightest clue who you could possibly be speaking about...haha.

Not into the new AiC song, perhaps because I never was into their old stuff either. Don't know exactly why.
This video is quite well done, despite the very standard storyline.

layne staley is the only person who should be singing in the band. Anytime a band has a singer who dies then starts up again YEARS later is a desperate group of people. For christs sake, start a new band don't just use the old name to gain publicity. it's sickening!!

Edit* and i don't even like alice in chains one bit! new or old. it's the principle of the matter!

To defend the rest of the band, Jerry Cantrell (guitarist/second vocalist) has always been in charge of writing the music as well as much of the lyrics. Not to discount Staley's role in the band, but one of the band's trademarks was their harmonizing vocals. Layne was a great singer and an integral part of the band, but if the rest of the band feels that it's time to continue, then I support it.

agree totally with setvak...its not the bands fault that staley was a selfish junkie and killed himself...why the fuck shouldnt they continue...its just as much their band as it was his...and they new stuff is awesome too...

I agree Layne was a selfish junkie, and that it's hard to really feel sorry for someone who dies of a drug overdose. Anyway, he was an integral part of the original line-up. This new release (which is great by the way, "Check My Brain" is great) got me going back to some of their stuff I had to listen to it again. "Would?" is still one of my all-time favorite songs. But Jerry was always just as integral, with most of the songwriting, the AIC guitar sound, and the vocal harmonizing. I don't blame them for starting up again with a new main vocalist that they feel comfortable with. I heard an interview with Jerry the other day on the radio, and two things struck me. They didn't hold auditions for a new vocalist with the intention to start up again; the new guy is an old friend that filled in on vocals for some show they did, and then things progressed from there. Second, Jerry stated that it was not an easy decision to "replace" Layne, and it took a lot of consideration... including the thought that Layne would not be bothered by it if he knew.

I'm with Setvak on this one too. Apart from anything else, I'm pretty sure Jerry Cantrell could make a comfortable living without AiC.

I don't agree with this "selfish junky" stuff, either. Junk makes people selfish, I know, but none of us know what sent him down that path and getting clean isn't exactly a walk in the park. I don't think it's fair to sit back and deride someone when, really, we know nothing of what was going on in their life that made it the way it was.

it is possible to clean your self up whilst still being in a rock band. Erik Sandin from NOFX is a great example almost 20 years clean never fallen off the wagon or anything. he does it by sheer will power and not socialising with the band when they are having after parties and things like that and they totally respect him for that.
i just get really riled up when i hear people make comments that anyone associated with the band should not continue on and things like that. i dont know how many times ive heard people smack dave grohl about because he does the foo fighters now and say things like "kurt would be turning in his grave right now". how the hell would they know that? in regards to AIC why shouldnt they continue on? they are all obviously friends and have a genuine desire to make music together...because one member ups and dies they are now not allowed to do anything together? look at helmet, page is the only remaining member and rightly/wrongly continued on using the name and we still love him for it.
