Meantime 2011 reissue on vinyl is up

Postby Jot » Sat Sep 24, 2011 3:35 pm

So, after Strap It On now the re-mastered vinyl reissue of Meantime is up for pre-order at http://www.orgmusic.com/?page_id=1915

This being one of the most important albums for me personally I am totally down for a brand new copy on 140g colored (or black) vinyl. BUT it doesn't let me order it, because "This recipient does not accept payments from non-U.S. PayPal accounts"...WTF? And, oh the irony, that happens while they mention that the copy is "pressed on high quality, European vinyl".

Anyway, just wanted to share this. The pre-order, not my whining...

Not exactly great for business. Those guys seemed... uh, I don't know. They were asking us about promoting this release via the site, but I guess they never worked it out with management since it never happened. Fuckers wouldn't give me a free copy of it, either.

Back from vacation, another try, same result...yes, those guys seem a bit sketchy...not to mention that $25 or $28 is way overpriced for a single record, re-mastered or not. I don't think these will sell too well (esp. given the lack of support from the offivial site) so I hope these show up in distros and record stores around the world some day.

Interested to hear how this one sounds. Strap It On barely had any noticeable difference. I will say though, their remaster of Failure's "Comfort" was absolutely fantastic.

This is already shipping by the way, just got an email confirmation. Looks like they'll be sending these out early.

Any comments on this, is this reissue any good? A lot of the vinyl reissues these days suck like yer mother in hell. But somebody said Strap It On had no difference, what about Meantime? And I mean, is it really printed on high quality vinyl, does it have a pretty normal volume level for a vinyl, is the artwork HQ print and not crappy scans of the cd art, etc?
In the meantime, Betty...strap it on. Size matters.

Soundwise I don't hear a big difference despite it being remastered, except the advantage that it's new and doesn't have the scruffs and light crackle that my old 1st press has - which alone made it worthwhile for me to get. My setup is not high-end so there maybe differences but I didn't pick that up.

And the artwork is true to the original, not a cheap scan at all but nothing fancy (I hoped for a gatefold version). Strong colors, a bit darker when compared but that maybe due to the fade-out of the original, it looks really solid. Only difference is that it's got a lyric sheet while the original had printed inner sleeves. But it's the same artwork all around.

Cheers for the info, Jot! My vinyl piggy bank is broke for this month, just ordered Herbie Hancock Thrust and Divine Comedy Bang Goes The Knighthood on vinyl...Meantime vinyl is a must buy as is the Failure Comfort reissue by the same company. Somehow after I purchased a vinyl player, music is music again and I don't even want to listen anything digital anymore...!
