Since Monochrome has its own discussion forum, I thought maybe we could have discussion threads for the other albums here.

So get some Born Annoying discussion going...

I remember stumbling upon this one while browsing a Sam Goody in '97 or so. It really took me by surprise because I thought I had all of the albums. It's sort of like when I TV show is done for the season or the series, and you've seen all of the episodes. You think the joy is over only to find an episode or two you missed. All of a sudden you feel that fresh excitement for something new.

I didnt even know this album existed until I found it in a used bin at some random cd store.

It was like I found buried treasure! OLD-school HELMET for sure! LOL!!

My fav from this album is definately, "Your head"

My favourites are Shirley MacLaine, Oven and the '89 Born Annoying.
Your Head is definitly cool too, and the most "classic" Helmet-like song, but there's something about it that keeps this song from catching me, don't know what.

I love this record too. I love the progression between the two versions of Born Annoying, sloppy NY Noise rock to possibly the most pissed off song out there. I like both versions although when my band covers it we always play it 93 style!

I like every song on it.

Considering that this was a compilation of singles and b-sides from 1989 to 1993, I wonder why Rock Messiah and Impressionable were not on here.

Just like you said, it was all about singles and b-sides, that means songs that have been produced and released, while Rock Messiah never was more than a demo, unfortunately ;) .

That's true about it being a demo. And maybe Impressionable was excluded because it was already on Dope, Guns, and... Oh well, just thought those would have been cool to have on there.

The first 4 tracks off Born Annoying are excellent, they just sound rough and noisy, especially Shirley Maclaine and Geisha to Go is fantastic, just completely different. Did they ever play these live?

Yeah I suppose they did, as they got signed to Amrep because of their active gigging and the word about them getting around.

Before Strap It On they must've had something to play live. I think the Born Annoying songs are pretty cool too, but for some reason I never listen to the Album. Rumble and Taken would be me favorite out of the first five or so songs, the rest I could never kinda identify with..can't even remember the names of the songs.

For the longest time I thought Oven and No Nicky No were part of the same song. At the time I was listening to it I never bothered to look at the CD cover or to look at the track numbers on the player display. I thought the silence at the conclusion of Oven was the transition into the jam out portion of the same song. I only discovered my error when I accidentally put the player on shuffle.

I was mildly disappointed that they were two separate tracks because I thought they worked so well together. But I have wondered for going on ten years now: were they supposed to be part of the same composition? I've listened to other albums where a song that is technically a separate track works as a lead in to the next song and seems to have been intentionally designed that way. Is this the case here?

I doubt that Oven and No Nicky No were designed as one piece considering Oven is a cover of a Melvins song!
They do work well together though!

I guess that answers that question. It might have helped if I had bothered to read the liner notes too. Thanks.
