So, I don't frequent concerts in general very often but I set out to see The Sword this evening and it was very worth it! Fun, hard rockin' show!!
Had listened to snippets of their tunes for about a year, but then it just finally hit me that I needed a classic, dark heavy metal sound in my mix of music. Never bother with anything related to Sabbath or anything Ozzy-like. But ever since I sampled this band, something just caught my attention. The Sword offered and delivered and now I can say I saw 'em live!
If you want monster riffs that summon up Sabbath playing warrior themes like in Zepplin's Immigrant Song, then go see The Sword wield their guitars. They play seemingly long minutes of epic chords, thundering bass and drums! It's kinda a no brainer but it sure hits the mark for some great rock!
The 2nd opener, Valient Thorr, was pretty good, too. They have this heavy, up-tempo metal performance but what makes them captivating is their tel-evangelist-like singer. Their is an air of fun to his in-between-song sermons but he really wants the crowd to "listen" to what he says and believes. Just go see a show to see what I mean.
Only caught the last song of the first act, the Black Cobras. I saw that they were a duo belting out pretty big sound and I kind of regret arriving fashionably late. Well, maybe they'll come around again to catch from the start.
I think I found a band that teeters on a level of guilty-pleasure but I wouldn't mind admitting admiration for their music!
