I don't think Meshuggah has their own thread in the Recommendations section, 'tis about time. The new album kicks some major ass again. It is different, I'd say more accessible at least in the Meshuggah context. You can listen to almost the entire album on their labels soundcloud page http://soundcloud.com/nuclearblastrecords and some other pages.

Edit: they took down most of the tracks, bummer.

A1 I Am Colossus (currently this one works: http://soundcloud.com/nuclearblastrecor ... m-colossus)
A2 The Demon's Name Is Surveillance
A3 Do Not Look Down (here)
B1 Behind The Sun
B2 The Hurt That Finds You First
C1 Marrow
C2 Break Those Bones Whose Sinews Gave It Motion (here)
D1 Swarm
D2 Demiurge
D3 The Last Vigil

And a remix...WTF.

This is fucking awesome, sick groovy record. I liked the sound of Obzen and Koloss is very much in the same vein. Only difference being that Koloss has a lot more good tunes, Obzen kinda wears out half-way through...Everyone needs to check out Do Not Look Down (ie. Youtube), what a great jarring groove it has.

I must say, I hate the artwork. Obzen stood out, this one looks just like your average death/doom/black/power-metal record today. Blah. BUT the music kicks arse so all is well in the world.
In the meantime, Betty...strap it on. Size matters.

Regarding the artwork it's exactly the opposite for me...I thought ObZen was kind of embarassing, and this one reflects the mood much better - I only see a painted guy that is supposed to bleed but it looks like a masquerade and doesn't feel right. I guess I am just the average Doom metal lover.

You can listen to Do Not Look Down using the link I provided above (http://songpier.com/meshuggah), but it may be hidden...just click on 'Songs' in that App-like window of the player on that page. They should put all the songs in there.

Can't wait to see them live if they come around, but they are touring the US first. Because I never saw them live, one of the big miss-outs of my life in music.
